34 fallen NYPD officers honored at police headquarters
Over 30 members of the NYPD who died serving the city were honored Friday at Police Headquarters in Manhattan.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill were on site as plaques commemorating the officers were unveiled.
"They did everything they could to rescue their brother and sister, officers and civilians, “ Mayor De Blasio said. "They did everything could to help this city recover and now they have paid a price for their noble acts."
A majority of the officers honored died of illnesses developed after responding to the terror attacks on Sept. 11.
