Construction underway to expand Brooklyn Bridge path

BROOKLYN -

The Department of Transportation says the overcrowded and unsightly entrance to the Brooklyn Bridge will soon be fixed.

A $22 million makeover is underway to expand the pathways at the Tillary Street entrance to 16 feet, from the current 14 feet.

The makeover also calls for the creation of a dedicated bike lane. Residents who use the bridge say they currently they have to squeeze into the narrow corridor with runners, tourists and cyclists.

Officials say the construction, which is expected to be completed this summer, will make it easier and safer for everyone to navigate back and forth over the bridge.
