2 killed in Learjet crash near Carlstadt DPW yard
Two people were killed when a Learjet heading to Teterboro Airport crashed near the Carlstadt Department of Public Works.
The FAA says that the jet crashed about a quarter-mile from the airport around 3:30 p.m. Monday near Kero Road and Commercial Avenue.
The jet had taken off from Philadelphia International Airport earlier this afternoon. It was in the air for less than a half-hour before it crashed, according to the website FlightAware.com.
The jet crashed near the DPW yard, causing lots of damage to nearby vehicles and buildings. The Carlstadt Fire Department was able to put out the fires quickly and there were no reports of any injuries on the ground.
Photos and videos posted on social media showed that thick, black smoke could be seen for miles after the crash.
FAA investigators are heading to the crash site to figure out what caused the jet to crash.
