BROOKLYN -

An 18-year-old is in custody after being accused of punching a teacher in the face.

Police say it happened just after 10 a.m. Thursday morning at Maxwell Career and Technical Education High School.

Authorities say the 63-year-old teacher was taken to Brookdale Hospital for a cut on his eye.

There is no word yet on what sparked the altercation.

Officials say charges against the young man are still pending.

A spokesperson for the Department of Education says they are looking into the incident and are providing the school with extra support.
