Over 100 students from 20 schools got the chance to see their hard work come together in a unique race Thursday.

Students from District 18 came together for the "S.T.E.M." propeller car race at South Shore High School. Participants used popsicle sticks and other household items to make their creations that raced other kids from rival schools.

Principal Angela DeFlippis thinks that unique ideas like these are key to students' learning experience, saying, "It's important to engage students … in order to engage them we have to be exciting, so we taught each student from every elementary and middle school of District 18 how to develop these cars, and students have a real understanding for motion."
