Red Hook bar saved after fundraising effort

RED HOOK -

Sunny's Bar in Red Hook is keeping its doors open after a fundraising effort by the community.

It was a long and hard-fought win for Tone Johanssen, the widow of the bar's founder, whose family wanted to sell the 127-year-old bar after its founder died.

So, the neighborhood rallied together to raise the funds needed to keep Sunny's doors open.

This isn't the first battle Sunny's has faced in recent years. Superstorm Sandy flooded the bar in 2012 and destroyed its foundation.
