June is LGBT Pride Month, and some Brooklyn pioneers in the community received public recognition Tuesday for their tireless work.
Kylar Broadus says he's proud to be a transgender man. He was honored for his work at the Transgender Education and Legal Defense Fund with the Legal Excellence Award, presented by the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office.
Broadus was one of four people honored in a Pride Month celebration hosted by acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.
Another honoree was Floyd Rumohr, of the Brooklyn Community Pride Center. Caribbean American Pride was honored for its focus on HIV/AIDS education.
