The New York City Rent Guidelines Board voted seven to two to raise rents for residents living in rent-stabilized apartments in all the five boroughs.
The board voted Tuesday to increase rent by 1.25 percent for one-year leases and 2 percent for two-year leases beginning Oct. 1.
Tenant advocate groups, including Rent Justice Coalition, rallied outside the meeting, demanding the board to reduce rent for rent-stabilized apartments.
In April, the board recommended a rent raise between 1 and 3 percent for one-year leases and a 2 to 4 percent raise for two-year leases.
