Police say they’ve identified the human remains that were found floating in Gowanus Bay near Red Hook Tuesday morning.
As News 12 reported, the torso was without its head and legs just before 11:30 a.m.
The NYPD chief of detectives says he believes the victim is a woman from New Jersey.
Police released a picture of the victim’s tattoo earlier and say a woman came to the precinct and said that appears to be her daughter’s tattoo.
The NYPD is not releasing the victim’s name publicly at this time. The medical examiner will soon determine the exact cause of death, but police say it is an active homicide investigation.
