Officials say a man is in custody after a woman was found fatally stabbed in Bed-Stuy Monday.

Police say they found 55-year-old Laverne Spencer with multiple stab wounds inside her fourth-floor apartment on Gates Avenue just after midnight.

Officials say the initial 911 call was to 317 Monroe St. for a 53-year-old man, who is now in police custody. Police say he had a cut to his hand, and that at some point, they were informed that someone else was in need of medical attention at 482 Gates Ave.

That's where police say they found Spencer who they believe is the man’s girlfriend.

Spencer was taken to Woodhull Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

So far, no charges have been filed.
