While fireworks are a Fourth of July tradition, they can also be dangerous.
The National Council on Fireworks Safety has offered several tips to ensure everyone has a safe Independence Day.
Officials advise anyone who is using fireworks to read all the information on the labels before they begin. They also say that safety goggles should be worn while operating fireworks.
Officials also tell people to dispose of used fireworks and duds by soaking them in water and placing them in a metal trash can.
Finally, pet owners should make sure their pets have ID tags on them in case they get scared and run off.
Fireworks are illegal in most parts of New York State.
