Community members gathered in Borough Park today to offer gratitude to the NYPD in the wake of an officer’s death in the Bronx Wednesday.

Officer Miosotis Familia, 48, was inside of a van at the time of the shooting when the suspect fired a single bullet from outside of the vehicle.

Community leaders say they want to remind the public about the dangers of the NYPD’s job and how vital it is to communities.

The group asked anyone who sees anti-police rhetoric on social media or anywhere, not to overlook it. They suggest reporting it so that a tragedy can potentially be avoided.
