Rally held for 2 Bed-Stuy moms killed in shooting
A rally was held Saturday in the same place where two young mothers were shot to death Wednesday night in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
News 12 reported that the two women, Chynna Battle, 21, and Shaqwanda Staley, 29, were standing with a large group of people when gunfire erupted outside 740 Gates Ave. just after 9 p.m., according to witnesses.
Police say a bullet struck Battle in the head. She later died at Woodhull Hospital.
Another shot struck Staley in the back, and she was taken to Kings County Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Both women leave behind young daughters.
Battle's aunt called the incident “unthinkable.”
“She's 21. She has a baby and now the baby has to grow up without a mom," she told News 12
Rally organizer Shneaqua Purvis said the community will not stand for this violence.
"My sister was murdered by a stray bullet and she was a parent and I spend my life trying to change the mindset of these shooters," she said.
Police haven't made any arrests yet and are offering $2,500 for information.
