BROOKLYN -

Two women who were fatally shot last week in Bedford-Stuyvesant were not the intended targets, police say.

As News 12 reported, the two young mothers - 29-year-old Shaqwanda Staley and 21-year-old Chynna Battle - were innocent bystanders when shots were fired into the courtyard behind 760 Gates Ave.

The incident took place on July 15.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce says he believes the shooting may have been a retaliation.

Police say no arrests have been made so far. They are offering a $2,500 reward for information.

The two victims leave behind young daughters.
