An organization aimed at keeping Wingate Park clean says it is branching out to improve other parks throughout central Brooklyn.
Volunteers at Friends of Wingate Park have been working hard to make their area a cleaner, safer place, they say. Some of their efforts already included fundraising to renovate two playgrounds and the fitness area at Wingate.
But now they're moving outward, calling on residents within Community Board 9 to come forward with problems at their own neighborhood parks.
They want residents to send them pictures of issues so they can raise awareness among elected officials, like the governor, the mayor and the borough president.
That's what they say worked at Wingate.
"We are building the parks because it's the future for our children," says volunteer Vivia Morgan. "We need safe space. We need our children to get out and get active. We know how important public space, open space, is for the kids."
