Residents who rely on the ramp at the 97th and Shore Road Park are questioning why it took so long to begin repairs.
Eddie Kerro, an 80-year-old retiree, says the ramp has been in disrepair for a year and a half. He says he has been forced to stay on the benches at the park because he was unable to use the ramp to walk down to St. Patrick's Field.
"For me to get down there I would have to climb over the fence or walk all the way down a couple blocks then go down," says Kerro.
Kerro wonders what took so long to fix the ramp. Other residents in the area say not having the ramp was a problem.
New York City Parks Department officials say the  ramp is scheduled to be fixed in the fall and will comply with the American Disabilities Act.
