8th annual Men's Day held to promote healthy communities

An event in Bed-Stuy helped bring men together for community service and exercise.
Brooklyn residents flocked to Herbert Von King Park Saturday for the eighth annual Men's Day.
The event features a 5K run, concerts, food, health screenings and more. It is aimed at encouraging men in Bed-Stuy to get outdoors, get active and participate in their community.
"Unfortunately African-Americans have a tradition of not living a long, healthy lifestyle,” says Ashley Toussaint, of Black Men Run NYC. “A lot of it is due to lack of exercise and lack of awareness around fitness, so we want to change that narrative to make sure that we are taking care of ourselves and taking care of our bodies."
Proceeds from the Bed-Stuy 5K will benefit the Von King Park Conservancy, which maintains local cultural and art programs as well as the grounds of the park.
