Crown Heights man creates sneaker organization to help homeless

BROOKLYN -

A Crown Heights man has created a charitable sneaker organization to help the homeless in Brooklyn.

Andre Mcdonnell is the founder of ‘It’s From the Sole,’ a nonprofit organization that aims to put sneakers onto the feet of thousands of homeless people around the city.

"We want to make sure that homeless people are walking more comfortably in their journey of life," he says.

The Department of Homeless Services says there are 16,000 people who are homeless in Brooklyn.

Mcdonnell says he started the organization in 2012 when he spotted a barefoot homeless man and asked for his shoe size.

He says he left his job in the fashion world to pursue his nonprofit fulltime.
