Liberty Science Center hosts solar eclipse watch event

Hundreds of spectators gathered at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City Monday to watch the historic solar eclipse.
The educational museum held an event to view the eclipse and provided the special glasses necessary to safely view the phenomenon.
Saul Martucci, 10, almost missed viewing the eclipse. So many people showed up to the event that many had to park far away. Saul’s mom says that she had to park and then take an Uber to the Science Center, and then forgot his glasses in the car.
News 12’s John Bathke was covering the event and gave his glasses to the boy, who was quite amazed by the eclipse.
The eclipse was only partial in New Jersey, with about 75 percent of the sun being blocked by the moon. But many told News 12 New Jersey that they were amazed by what they saw.
“This is another celestial event that is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said one spectator.
So many people showed up to the viewing party that many were not able to get into the science center to get a ticket or get viewing glasses.
