Community leaders hosted the first-ever "Love Yourself" Brooklyn Peace Concert in Crown Heights Monday, ahead of the annual J'ouvert festivities that begin next week.
The free community event at Medgar Evers College featured performances from several well-known artists, dancing, educational speakers and more. It was headlined by Brooklyn-born rapper and actor Joey Badass.
Family members of Carey Gabay, who was fatally shot at the J'ouvert festival two years ago, were also in attendance to honor their loved one. They say they are hoping the concert helps prevent any more families from going through what they are going through.
Elected officials also joined in on the fun with community members.
The goal of the event was to promote a safe summer and J'ouvert festival.
