CONEY ISLAND -

Three people were injured when a fire broke out in a Coney Island apartment building.

Firefighters rushed to the scene at around 6:30 a.m. and contained the flames before it could spread to any neighboring apartments.

Two residents were rushed to the hospital with smoke inhalation. One firefighter is also being evaluated for heart palpitations, according to the fire chief.

The fire chief tells News 12 that the fire may have been caused by a candle, but that has not been confirmed.

An official cause of the fire remains under investigation.
