SUNSET PARK -

Relief efforts to help those affected by Tuesday's powerful earthquake in Mexico and Hurricane Maria in the Caribbean are underway in Brooklyn.

The community group El Grito de Sunset Park is collecting water and nonperishable goods like cereal and cans of soup inside Assemblyman Felix Ortiz's office.

Leaders of a nearby mosque offered to help store goods due to the amount collected.

Volunteers hope to ship the items to the hardest-hit areas by next week.
