A Bronx pawn shop is among the many organizations aiming to help Puerto Rico recover from its second hurricane in two weeks.
Power is out across the island, and Bronx residents who have relatives there are hoping to finally hear from their families. Pictures and video coming from the island show flooded neighborhoods, crumbled houses and fallen trees.
Jose and Lisette Acevedo say they're keeping their phones close, waiting to get a call from family in Aguadilla.
To help, the Acevedos set up a donation site at Gold Star Pawn, their store on Castle Hill Avenue. The 41st Precinct and their local City Council member are also involved, they say.
They say they're looking for clothes, water, canned goods and diapers.
