Grassroots groups march against gentrification
Several grassroots groups marched down the streets of Hunts Point Friday against gentrification.
"Take Back the Bronx" protesters claim that rents are becoming too high for Bronx residents to afford and they accuse their local politicians of selling out.
They walked to the office of City Councilman Rafael Salamanca Jr., who represents the area, to ask for answers. They also called out Mayor Bill de Blasio and Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
Marchers also passed out pamphlets on rezoning issues and housing. They cited gentrification in Brooklyn as a reason for residents to be wary of change and unite against it.
The borough president's office declined to comment on the pamphlet.
