Residents are calling for change at a scenic waterfront park that features postcard views of the Verrazano Bridge.
Bensonhurst Park and the adjacent Shore Parkway promenade are popular places for runners, bicyclists and families. However, residents say garbage bins are overflowing with trash especially after the weekends. They say trash bins are filled with beer cases and bottles at the baseball park where many kids play.
Residents say the trash is noticeable and so is the smell. They say the beauty of the park is ruined when you have to stare at tons of trash.
Members of the Parks Department were on hand Monday removing litter, but some say more needs to be done. Officials from the Parks Department say the areas are always thoroughly cleaned and usually after a sunny day the amount of trash increases.
