FLATBUSH -

Students returned to class Friday after a 19-year-old boy was stabbed near Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, police say.

The incident happened outside the Flatbush Avenue school around 2:45 p.m. Thursday.

Police would not say whether he was a student at the school.

A representative from Teamsters Local 237, the school safety officers' union, says the incident happened off school grounds but close to campus. After being stabbed, the rep says the victim ran back into the school seeking safety.

Several students told News 12 that they knew nothing about the incident, but say they were not being allowed back inside the school after dismissal.

A Department of Education spokesperson commented by saying, "The NYPD immediately responded to a non-school related incident that took place near the Erasmus Hall Campus in Brooklyn after dismissal. There were no serious injuries and it's being investigated by the NYPD."

Police say the victim was transported to Kings County Hospital and is expected to be OK.

No arrests have been made.
