The 36th annual Brooklyn Columbus Day Parade took place in Bensonhurst Saturday.

Organizers say the parade helps to create a sense of community.

"It's important to have knowledge of the roots and we need to spread it because if you are securing your own routes you're able to then extend and embrace all others," said Jack Spatola, of the Federation of Italian-American Organization.

Organizers say the parade grows every year with over 10,000 neighbors joint together from around the borough and beyond.
