Dogs support children in reading class

Dogs are helping to support students with their academics inside city schools.
Two of the dogs, 11-month-old Brightly and 5-year-old Shine, go to school every single day at New Bridges Elementary School in Crown Heights.
The dogs are part of the Department of Education's Comfort Dog Program.
The program is intended to support social and emotional learning among students, according to officials.
Program officials say reading aloud to the dogs allows students to enhance their reading skills without being judged.
New Bridges Elementary is one of 30 schools in New York City that participates in the program.
The expansion also includes P.S. 204 in Morris Heights and P.S. 12 Lewis and Clark school in the Bronx.
