Cuccio's Bakery in Gravesend has been keeping it in the family for 80 years with its generation-to-generation ownership and scratch-made treats.
The Avenue X shop serves up cookies, custom cakes and bread -- all freshly made. It also introduces some twists on classics, like its seven-layer cookies that are a spin on the traditional Italian rainbow cookie. John Cuccio says he hasn't heard of any place that makes them that way.
"We sell pounds and pounds of these seven-layers," he says. "I think they're the best seven-layers in Brooklyn."
Cuccio's grandfather was a florist by trade but switched when he came to Brooklyn from Italy.
Cuccio expects the store to be bustling as the holiday season approaches.
