Tens of thousands of Yankees fans celebrated Wednesday after the Bronx Bombers defeated the Houston Astros in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series.
The Yankees took a 3-2 lead in the series after defeating Houston 5-0, taking them a step closer to the World Series. A raucous crowd brought the energy in what they say was a game dominated by New York.
"I think it's going to follow. We have the momentum right now. We won three in a row," says fan Richard Fenimore. "I don't remember the last time Houston lost three in a row, so we have a nice, easy plane ride and then hand the ball to Severino, our ace."
Fans are paying homage to the team's success by handing out a paper with several celebrities - Adam Sandler, Jimmy Fallon and Simon Cowell - all with their thumbs down.
The hand gesture was made popular by third baseman Todd Frazier when a Mets fan gave the team a thumbs down during a game at Citi Field.
The Yankees have not won the World Series since 2009.
