A hair braiding salon in Brooklyn is paying homage to the styles worn by women in Africa.
Tamara Albertini, of Ancestral Strands, says she researched how women in her culture would use hair as art, and that motivated her to open her own salon doing the same.
"My company is called Ancestral Strands because I am getting most of these ideas and the talent is coming through me through my ancestors," Albertini says. "I am getting the inspiration from them and I am paying homage."
Albertini has been recognized for her talent at Afropunk and the African Arts Festival in Fort Greene.
