Families across the city came out Sunday to participate in the third annual Safety Awareness Day at the Riverdale Jewish Center.

The annual day of safety instruction was established after a fire burned through the Brooklyn home of the Sassoon family, killing seven children in 2015.

Organizers say the best way to prevent a tragedy is to educate others on what to do in the event an emergency strikes.

Those who attended the event were invited to walk through a fire emergency simulation and explore a fire truck and ambulance.

This year’s event also included safety tips on car seat safety and CPR.

"My goal is that we create a fun and hands-on educational environment and kids,” said organizer Aaryn Rubin. “Families walk away learning something that's educational to put into practice to prevent tragedy."
