A breast cancer survivor received a surprise ceremony in her honor Wednesday afternoon.
Greenpoint resident and breast cancer survivor Julie Wilson thought she was attending an awareness event at the 94th Precinct but arrived to find out that she was being named the precinct’s “Woman of Inspiration.”
Wilson was 37 years old and 19 weeks pregnant when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014. While pregnant, she had four sessions of chemotherapy and continued radiation therapy after her son’s birth.
News 12 Brooklyn is told the community wanted to celebrate Wilson for her strength in her journey and battle against cancer. The honor comes as part of the precinct’s annual breast cancer campaign.
Wilson has been cancer-free for three years and says she appreciates all that her community has done for her.
