A hit-and-run driver is now behind bars for the deaths of two men in Cypress Hills last year, but the grief remains for the loved ones of the victims.
According to the victims' families, the driver, 21-year-old Efrin Lanfranco-Perez, was sentenced last week to three years in jail for the deaths of 56-year-old Israel Turcios and his friend, 41-year-old Delmer Maldonado.
For the victims' loved ones, the sentence is just not enough.
On that tragic night, officials say the driver was speeding along Fulton Street. He crashed into the two men, then got out of his car and ran off, but was eventually apprehended.
The relatives of Turcios and Maldonado are now left with only memories of the two men. The families say all they can do now is honor the two lives that were taken too soon.
