Legislator Laura Curran has declared victory in the Nassau County executive race. 

The Democrat from Baldwin, who would be Nassau first female county executive, was locked in a close race with Republican Jack Martins, a former state senator and Mineola mayor. Both candidates vowed to put an end to corruption after the high-profile arrests of current executive Ed Mangano and Oyster Bay Supervisor Joe Venditto.

Curran told News 12 that she has a three-pronged approach for cleaning up county corruption: Term limits, the creation of an inspector general position to oversee county contracting procedures and a renewed focus on enforcing ethics rules.

"The voters of Nassau County said loud and clear that they are ready to end the culture of corruption and chart a new path," Curran told News 12 shortly after declaring victory.
