Brooklyn Assemblywoman Jaime Williams traveled last month to Puerto Rico and Dominica to see how she could help those affected by Hurricane Maria.
She says the trip allowed her to see firsthand the extent of the destruction caused by the hurricane.
Williams and others traveled to both islands to hand out clothing, food and care packages that contained feminine supplies, toiletries, antibiotic ointments and first aid kits.
Williams went to Dominica with a friend, Jean Joseph, who is from the Caribbean nation. Joseph says the homes of many of her family members were destroyed and that most homes no longer had roofs.
Williams says she has bags and boxes with more supplies that will be shipped to Dominica next week.
