Construction crews broke ground on Gov. Chris Christie Drive in Morris Plains Monday.
The new road, named in honor of the governor, will be an access road into Central Park in the county where Christie has lived for the past 25 years.
“This is also an indication you are starting to get old,” Christie joked. “When they start to name things after you. It not only means you provided good service but you’re getting old.”
Morris County officials say that Central Park draws more than 400,000 visitors a year. The honor comes as the governor has just 57 days left in office.
Construction on the road will begin within a week, after the Christie administration granted special approval for the country to construct the roadway. The road will be completed by next year.
Two protesters were spotted near the ceremony. The demonstrators tell News 12 New Jersey that they do not approve of the job that the governor has done and they do not think that a road should be named after him.
