The New York Public Interest Research Group released a new list of potentially dangerous and toxic toys.

NYPIRG showed off the potentially hazardous toys Tuesday as part of its 32nd annual Trouble in Toyland survey.

This year, the group says it found elevated levels of lead in a metal fidget spinner sold at a major box store. NYPIRG said it purchased the spinner at Target, which has now stopped selling the item.

The group says certain wooden peg games that could be potential choking hazards for small children were found at several area dollar stores. It demonstrated the potential threat by placing the pegs into a plastic cylinder the size of a child's windpipe. NYPIRG says the toys were not properly labeled.  News 12 found the same toys in a Garden City dollar store, but the packages were labeled for children 6 years and older.

The group recommends that parents be extra careful as they shop for children's toys this season. It says parents can check if something is a potential choking hazard by seeing if the toy fits inside a cardboard tube from a roll of toilet paper or paper towels.
