Cheddar Morning Business Update 12/5: Starbucks partners with Alibaba

  • Starbucks is partnering with Alibaba. The coffee giant announced it is opening a reserve roastery in Shanghai with an immersive augmented reality shopping experience. Visitors can order their coffee off of an app with details about brewing methods and sign up for 'coffee tasting experiences.'
  • Nike has found a way to make running a tiny bit easier. A  study shows that Nike's 'zoom vapor-fly four percent' sneaker actually reduces energy use while running by four percent. Winner of the NYC Marathon Shalane Flanagan was actually wearing them when she won this year. The sneakers cost $250. 
  • House of cards is coming back and its Claire Underwood's time to shine. Netflix announced the final season will resume production without Kevin Spacey. It will be eight episodes, instead of the typical 13. Robin Wright will be the lead and spoiler alert, she'll star as Madame President.
