Nassau police confirm that numerous cars were broken into early Thursday morning in the Merrick area.
Surveillance video obtained by News 12 Long Island shows a man trying the door handle of a pickup truck parked on Birch Drive. The video shows the suspect walking towards Babylon Turnpike and then running away when he sees a Nassau County police car pass by.
This isn’t the first time cars have been broken into in Merrick. On McCord Avenue, a homeowner tells News 12 that it happened to him two years ago.
Officials say cars have also been broken into in the Hicksville area.
Police are asking anyone with information to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
