One Bronx mom is helping children with autism enjoy a sensory friendly holiday this year.
Lizette Hernandez created D3 Sports and Recreation, a nonprofit organization for children with autism to play sports.
This year the organization has included a variety of holiday activities. One of the activities is sifting through rice to find holiday toys.
Hernandez says sometimes the holidays can be stressful for children with autism and this is a space where they can be with friends.
“That's different about us is that we are aware of their needs,” says Hernandez. “When they go in there and are having a meltdown or are a little nervous, we're understanding.”
