Best of the Bronx: Bronx woodworks

A trendy woodworking company is producing handcrafted furniture in the Bronx.
When Brad Miller moved to the Bronx from Texas because his wife got a new job, he realized the couple had no furniture so he decided to build some.
Having no carpentry or woodworking experience, Miller began creating trendy looking wood pieces out of a room in their Port Morris apartment.
"I didn't really grow up building anything, we didn't have any tools in our house," Miller jokes.
But the second bedroom became a makeshift workshop and soon his work garnered the attention of his friend who happens to be an interior designer.
A year later, "Bronx Woodworks" opened its doors.
"Basically, I didn't say no to anything. If I didn't know how to build it, I would say yes to the customer and then figure it out later," he says.
Miller says he watched YouTube videos for tips on how to build furniture and used trial and error to teach himself.
Now he's built a business that brings high-quality, hand-made furniture to clients all around the city.
His pieces have even been sold to restaurants in the borough.
"One of the great things about starting this business, is getting to know all the other business owners in this neighborhood," he says.
"I just love building furniture, so if you have a cool idea that I’m into then I’ll build it."
