The Bronx is booming and more chain stores are opening for business in the borough, according to one non-profit economic development corporation.
President of the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation Marlene Cintron says the number of chain stores in the Bronx increased 4.3 percent in 2017.
She says the figure is more than any other increase seen in other boroughs and more growth means more jobs and opportunity.
"Because we've been so retail starved for so long, we consider going to these stores, honestly as retail therapy," she says.
While comparatively lower rent may be what's alluring the 907 new retailers, Cintron says any investment in the Bronx is good for all.
A dollar that is spent in the local community goes around six times in the community," she says.
