Workers at the Hunts Point Produce Market are threatening to go on strike at midnight over a contract dispute.
Members of Teamsters Local 202 say they rejected an offer from the Hunts Point Produce Market and authorized a strike.
In response, a spokesperson for the Hunts Point market released a statement saying, "Discussions are ongoing and we are confident that both sides can come to an agreement to avoid a work stoppage."
The statement goes on to say, "In the unfortunate event of a strike, not only will the market remain open, but those who decide to walk off the job would forgo hundreds of dollars in wages and benefits per day."
The market provides food for much of the Metropolitan area - including restaurants and bodegas in the Bronx.
