Bridgeport police are preparing safety measures for a Friday rally planned to coincide with the expected conclusion of a state's attorney probe into the fatal shooting of a city teen by a police officer.
"The Bridgeport Police Department will be here to ensure public safety," says Chief AJ Perez.
As News 12 Connecticut has reported, an officer gunned down 15-year-old Jayson Negron after a car chase in which police say he drove the vehicle into an officer.
State investigators were looking into whether the shooting was justified.
Michael Rosnick, the lawyer for Negron's family, will meet with Waterbury State's Attorney Maureen Platt to receive the results Friday.
Community leaders say the planned rally will provide an opportunity for the public to react to the findings.
Negron's family says it will not comment until after Friday's announcement.
Wayne Winston, a community activist, says that even if the officer is criminally cleared, the family can still move forward with a lawsuit.
"Historically, we do much better when it comes to the civil aspect versus the criminal, because law enforcement has a wide berth to do its job, which is necessary," he says.
