Police have released new surveillance video of a suspect wanted in connection with a West Farms rape almost three years after it occurred.
It was a late Tuesday afternoon on Feb. 24, 2015 when police say the 12-year-old victim got off a city bus and was on her way from a tutoring program. They say the suspect approached her from behind, grabbed her arm, threatened to kill her if she screamed and forced the girl into an alley where she was raped.
Diane Crowley, the lead detective on the case, says she hopes that new images of the suspect will bring police closer to catching him.
"I needed the public's help in 2015 and we need it still," she says.
For two days, Crowley and the victim combed through the area, looking for what the girl described then as glimpses of a green wall during the attack, which police say was random. They say the suspect is now in his late teens, possibly 20 years old, and about 5 feet 2 inches tall.
The footage released Monday shows the suspect walking with the victim walking past a school on Crotona Avenue and East 179th Street.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $22,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case. Anyone with information can call 1-800-577-TIPS.
