Woodbridge company creates mitts to protect people from germs

A Woodbridge-based company has created a product to help prevent the spread of the flu.
Clean Getaway Products developed a mitt to protect people from touching germs in public spaces.
News 12 received a demonstration on how the gloves work at Lupe's Drug Store in Fairfield.
The mitts are designed to be easier to get on and off than traditionally latex gloves for quick use while out and about.
The owners of the company discovered a need for hand protection while touching surfaces in places such as public restrooms, gas stations, and elevators.
“We were concerned about when you go to the restroom and touching the bathroom door handle after you finish washing your hands,” says co-owner Ann Sanza. “We were exposing your hands to more germs than going to eat. So we would grab 4 or 5 paper towels which is wasteful and not as protective as this. These are non-porous, paper towels are porous.”
The Clean Getaway mitts are currently being used in municipal buildings in Ansonia and Seymour.
