The first phase of reconstruction at the Unionport Bridge is underway, and many say they are already feeling the impact.
The already-congested section of the Bronx saw additional rush hour traffic Friday, likely due to the closure of one westbound lane on the ramp toward Zerega Avenue.
The closure comes as a result of a major construction project to replace the bridge. The overall project is expected to be completed by 2021 and includes the new bridge, the construction of additional westbound lanes and the addition of pedestrian and bike lines.
News 12 is told the lane reduction is expected for at least six months.
