A meeting of missionaries was held in the Bronx Saturday to discuss how the Catholic church can better support the local Hispanic community.
Quinto Encuentro, or the fifth encounter, brought out hundreds for the event that was part conference and part retreat.
Hispanic ministry leaders and parishioners came together at Mount Saint Vincent College for prayer, song and reflection.
The event, which last took place back in 1987, allows representatives from 60 different parishes in the Archdiocese of New York to share their experiences with others and work together to move the Catholic church forward for Hispanic worshipers.
Speakers took to the stage before break-out groups discussed the two central themes from the event, getting involved and bearing fruit, all while trying to learn more about the experiences of parishioners at various churches in the region.
A larger, regional encounter will take place in June before a national event with representatives from across the country happens in September.
