Weekend training session held for Long Island firefighters

The New York State Association of Fire Chiefs held a training session Saturday in Freeport where firefighters learned how to save their own lives in emergency situations.
About 80 firefighters from across Long Island learned how to survive is they were ever submerged in water while wearing more than 50 pounds of gear.
The other part of this weekend's training involved learning how to give their fellow firefighters CPR in case of a heart attack. They say it happens more often than one may think.
"The No. 1 cause of deaths among firefighters across the country during and after a fire is cardiac arrest," said fire instructor Curtis Wicks.
The training continues Sunday for firefighters at the Freeport Recreation Center.
